the peanut butter and jelly meltdown

This is one of those posts that I should have written many, many, MANY months ago. But there's nothing in the rule books that says I can't go back in time! Now that I have come to the conclusion that this blog is mostly for me to be able to go back and see the memories I've made with my family, my creative inspirations, and organized spurts of my life, I have a little (a lot of) catching up to do! With that said, you may start seeing random posts from me in an effort to do just that...catching up.

By the end of the summer (2010) Mikayla had her peanut butter and jelly making skills perfected...even down to her cutting off her own crusts. One August day she showed me her masterpiece! I was so proud because she got out all of the ingredients and made it ALL by herself!

{August 29, 2010}

About a month later at the end of September (2010), Mikayla decided to try again making her own sandwich, but this time I had no clue she was doing this!! All of a sudden she is in my craft room where I was working and very upset about something. She was very concerned that she had used the wrong kind of strawberry jelly. Instead of grabbing the bottle of strawberry jelly spread, she had grabbed the strawberry syrup topping (for ice cream). Poor little thing was so distraught. The video below doesn't even capture the amount of tears when she came in to tell me what had happened. This is of her telling me again, so I could capture this sweetness on video. (never mind all of the random junk on the countertop, OK?)

before bedtime

I must say that I am truly thankful for those few minutes right before bedtime when the night time routine is finished and we're waiting for the clock to strike 8:00. And no, it's not because I am excited for them to get into bed so I can have some time to myself...come on now I wouldn't want that. (OK, fine that has a little to do with it.)

After teeth are brushed, the kids get to choose whether to read with mommy or daddy or play for a few more minutes. Last night, they wanted to play, but Mikayla specifically requested, "Play for 2 minutes, then read." So, while Ryan was investigating why our oven decided to go on the fritz, I sat on the couch and watched them play. Yes, I actually sat still. I slowed down for a minute and didn't do anything. I had the best time!! They are becoming quite the entertainers. And I was thankful that I put everything else aside just to sit and be entertained.

The first video shows Mikayla goofing off. She seriously does this all the time!

In this next video you'll notice a bit of a wardrobe change from Mikayla. After doing the above "stunt" for a good 5 minutes, she realized she was a bit too hot in the purple jammies (um, I told her those PJs were for the WINTER, not the summer, but what 3-year old actually listens to that kind of common sense?)

*Please excuse the indecent exposure with the panties shot...I was trying to avoid it.

Sometimes I love just watching these two interact with each other. It makes me smile and my heart swells. I love that they are so close in age to each other...only 17 1/2 months apart. Looking back at that "surprise"!? I am actually truly thankful for it.

I have caught them playing together more and more lately (and yes, they still fight over toys...they aren't perfect) and it makes me laugh to hear some of the things they talk about. Austin calls Mikayla "sissy" and Mikayla calls Austin "buddy" (and sometimes she calls him Bolt - now that's funny!).

Man, I'm one lucky momma. I'm not sure I say that enough, but I totally am.

Thankful doesn't even begin to describe it.

**Thankful Thursday**

something about those shoes

I'm thinking it's about time we get rid of these shoes...

You think!?

Oh my goodness, this is embarrassing. For some reason Austin has this strange attachment to these shoes. He loves them and wants to wear them ALL THE TIME. The other night, he even wanted to wear them to bed. Really?

On Sunday, we were forced to let him wear these to a birthday lunch for my brother because it would have been a nightmare of a time if we didn't! I just wanted to keep the peace, and so he wore the shoes.

On the way home, Ryan and I devised a plan to get him to start wearing his other shoes. I never thought we would have to do a shoe intervention on a 2-year old...on a boy for that matter!

I knew at least a week or so ago that it was about time for new shoes and since it's still sandal weather here in Oregon, I took him to Payless Shoe Source and we found a cool new pair of Cars shoes. Was he excited about them? Not even in the slightest. Hello!? They even light up in the back! I never buy shoes that light up! But I thought maybe he actually would wear them because of that. The only thing he liked to do with them was hit them on the ground to watch them light up.

So, we took them back.

Just on Saturday, while out hitting up some garage sales with Mikayla, I found a pair of green Crocs for $1.00! His size, great condition, and so I thought to myself, "score!"

Nope. Wants nothing to do with them.

In fact, he would rather wear his water shoes than wear a perfectly brand new pair of every day shoes. And, as you can tell, pretty soon we'll be seeing his toes pop through on these, too.

And, then there's the time I mistakenly let Austin play outside in an almost brand new pair of shoes, and a couple of days later found this...

It still hurts me just to look at these! Good thing I only paid $3.74 on clearance back in January. Although, I kind of thought they would last longer than oh, let's see...2 days!!

After some smart thinking (and a couple pairs of ruined shoes), I finally thought to make an "outside shoes only" basket to keep in the garage.

Could have used that A LITTLE EARLIER in the summer!!

What's the culprit to all this madness?

Just watch and you will see...

Curious on where those shoes in the first picture are?

In the garbage.

Pray for us.

late night ramblings

Today will be one of those "run around like a chicken with its head cut off" kind of days (ew...that's actually gross to think about).

Anyway, it's going to be busy.

Mikayla and I have dentist appointments in the morning which she has very seriously told me that she does NOT want to go to. Austin is going to be staying with my cousin for the 2 or so hours that we'll be gone and I'm a little nervous since he hasn't been left alone much without his big sissy AND his mommy.

After our appointment, it's straightening up the house time (it's spotless as I sit here typing, but you know how long that will last with 2 rascals running loose), cooking in the kitchen, and preparing for my event tonight! I am super excited to be hosting a Stampin' Up! card making night. During August and September Stampin' Up! is having a promotion called Just For Kids, so the theme of my card making night is Kid-Friendly Birthday Cards. My guests will be making 3 card designs (2 of each design) for $10 and will walk away stocked up on 6 birthday cards for all the little kiddos in their life (well, some of them at least)! All the supplies are ready and waiting for them. All you do is come over, eat food, stamp, have a chance to win a door prize, browse through the catalog if you want, and have fun with friends!

Here's a sneak peek at one of the cards we'll be making...

I've been staying pretty busy with Stampin' Up! but still enjoying it without getting too overwhelmed. I'm still posting on my SU! blog every now and then, so if you need a little card making inspiration pop on over there to check it out. I don't post every day, but I try to get something up at least once a week. You can check back tomorrow to see all of the cards we made tonight. Go HERE to see our creations!

In preparation, it feels good to know that the house is finally cleaned up, which I know Ryan is grinning ear to ear about (minus the part where he had to help). He says he likes it when I have people over because the house gets cleaned. No comment.

I guess there's really no point to this post other than to tell you that I'll be busy today and I'm still making my rounds to stop by and say hi to all of you who have come over to say hi to me! It would be a whole lot easier if you all just stopped blogging for a bit, so I can catch up. *wink*

Gotta love late night ramblings about nothing (12:14 AM to be exact).

And, just for fun (and because this post is a bit random anyway), I'll leave you with Mikayla's newest little obsession...dancing! She'll be starting a creative movement dance class in the Fall and she is super excited about it. I will definitely say that she has that creative movement thing going for her.

Here's the soon to be (in at least 15 years) contestant on So, You Think You Can Dance (I love that show!)

FYI: Don't mind the red face and the sweaty boy on the sidelines...we had just come in from the blazing heat outside!

Hi friends! I bet you were wondering when I was going to announce this month's lucky winner from the Monogram Madness craft challenge! The weekend was a blur and my level of energy was waaaaay down after all of the busy-ness. At first I didn't have the time to get something posted, but after I found more time...I just didn't have the energy.

So, my apologies to you for putting it off, but I did draw the winner on Saturday as "witnessed" by random.org.

Father's Day 2009

Father's Day didn't quite go as planned. I wanted it to be extra special for Ryan, but you can't always make the kids cooperate and be on their best behavior. It was a bit of a hard day, but we made the best of it despite all the crabbiness. The night before, I had Ryan fill out a menu for his special day. He woke up to a yummy breakfast of To Die For Blueberry Muffins (the best recipe ever!) with a side of scrambled eggs and a little present from the kids that he could take to work with him to show off his little cuties at his desk.

We then headed to look at patio sets to buy with our garage sale money from the weekend. We made just under $200! (The garage sale was exhausting, and despite the rain that drenched us (3 times!), it was a success.) After looking for just a short bit, we didn't find a patio set we liked in our price range, so we then headed to lunch at Buster's BBQ...Ryan's favorite place to eat. At lunch, we gave Ryan another gift. I had won a Father's Day giveaway a couple of weeks prior (thanks, Jennifer!). It was a $20 gift card to Target. So, after the kids went down for a nap. Ryan headed to Target to find exactly what he wanted. He had already had his eye on something that was $20. I told him he could get whatever he wanted! The rest of the day was spent enjoying being together with a walk around the block, playing outside, and finishing the day off with a German Pancake for dinner made just for Ryan! We did end the day with surprising him with one more gift that he was supposed to get for his birthday in a month, but I knew he already thought he was getting it for his birthday, so I surprised him and get it for him earlier. He definitely was surprised and I pulled it off! It was a Tiger Woods Wii game. Although the day didn't go exactly as planned, it was memorable nonetheless. Babe, maybe it will turn out better for your birthday in July...

I hope you all had a special day celebrating the dads in your life! (Note: I can't believe we didn't get any pictures of the kids and their daddy on Father's Day! What's wrong with me!?)

Here's a fun little video to leave you with while we played for a bit outside on Sunday. Ryan was playing with the kids teaching them hopscotch. Austin couldn't quite get off the ground...

The first couple of times it's Mikayla talking in the background,
but listen carefully and you'll hear Austin near the end.
