your basic black suitcase

Just a quick tip for today's Works for Me Wednesday!

I've been brainstorming some ribbon projects for tomorrow's Monthly Craft Challenge party. And somehow I got to thinking how you could use ribbon as a luggage identifier. When my husband and I got married we, of course, registered for the basic black luggage set which everyone else also owns! So, when we would go on vacation (which really isn't that often) we had a hard time trying to figure out which luggage was ours in the mass amount of black luggage.

To solve that problem I decided to tie on a few ribbons, so that now when the luggage is passing through the carousel we can instantly spot ours! I know this isn't quite a genius idea. My mom actually uses a fabric scrap for hers, so I kind of copied the idea from her, but I thought I would share it anyway because I know it will work for me (maybe we should plan a vacation just to test it out!) I wanted to be all cute and tie on lots of colors of ribbon, but then I got to thinking...every now and then my husband goes on solo business trips and I'm sure he doesn't want to be lugging around a "frilly" looking suitcase. In fact, this might be pushing it a bit. (Good thing I did it on just the large suitcase, huh, babe?)

Come to find out...today's WFMW is the Frugal Edition. This would definitely be considered frugal...just head to your ribbon scraps and with just a few pieces of ribbon you're good to go. Go check out more frugal tips at We Are That Family.

Don't forget to come back tomorrow so we can all share our ribbon craft projects. If you want to come back to join us, please do! We're linking up new or old posts that showcase ribbon projects so that we can be inspired to keep creating!! Want more information, go HERE. If you don't have something to share, that's OK...just come on back anyway to see what others have been up to!

That is a really great idea! I don't travel much, but I know that this would really help at the airport. :) Or for school trips.

Oh, I think I should go on a trip just to try this one out -I could be like your try it at home reporter :) Great, easy idea! Thanks!

I've got a couple of ideas for tomorrow's ribbon projects. I hope to have time to work on them today but I may have to show some older projects. Can't wait to see everyone's ideas-love seeing what others come up with, everyone is so creative.

I thought about doing this to our plain black luggage too, but my hubby uses it for business alot too and wouldn't be very happy about the frilly ribbon either!! Great idea though! I just need to find some manly ribbon!

Oh Heidi are you sure we haven't known one another in a different life time? LOL!

I did this exact same thing last May when I flew out to Las Vegas...however I have a dark green suitcase and I used all sorts of different ribbon. I'll have to take a picture of it for your craft challenge.

I'm actually working on something similar for my suitcase this year. (I'm leaving on Friday.)

Blessings,
Amanda

Ribbons (and bacon) make everything better. Smart!

Funny... that is an idea my Grannie gave me years ago and I thought it was GENIUS! :) I tied something ugly on mine but I might just have to beautify it a bit with some pretty ribbon for my upcoming trip. :)

Yep, we do the same thing! Blue ribbon with white polka dots tied onto all our black luggage. It definitely makes life easier!

Simple, but great tip!

Several years ago I went with my middle child on her senior trip. We put ribbons on all the luggage so we could easily identify it in the airport. I really enjoy your blog.

Ribbon is a great way to identify luggage, we've been doing that ever since we moved to CA and first began flying back and forth. We don't fly much now that we're back home in MI but we had some crazy red and gold thick ribbon on ours and it always helped! All luggage looks black and the same at the airport!

Had our tea party today, come and see how it turned out!

What a smart idea!! I will have to remember this when I travel this fall with 2 kids alone!! The last thing I need is not to be able to find my luggage!!!
