Christmas candy countdown

A big thank you to Liz @ Sugarplum Creations for passing along the following idea which became the first activity in our 25 Days of Christmas Advent! {Today, Liz is also sharing the one she and her girls made for their December 1st activity, so go take a peek...it's super cute!!}

~ Christmas Candy Countdown ~

Hershey's Kisses...check.
Ribbon...check.
Saran Wrap...check.

Two cute kids ready for fun...check.

the ribbon cutter

(look at that concentration)

the chocolate placer
(quite the pro!)

It's December 1st...
time for the first of 25 pieces of chocolate
to countdown to Christmas!

See what we made, Mommy!
Yay for chocolate!

Hung with care next to our giant-sized advent calendar
made just for us by Grammy last year.
As many are doing with their advent calendars this year, I'll be writing an activity on a slip of paper and each day they will pull it out of the pocket to see what Christmas fun will be had for that day. I'm trying to keep it simple and in fact, the activity will be decided upon for the next day the night before! How's that for planning ahead!? (I do have a list of activities I want to do, but just couldn't figure out timing, so I figure deciding the night before works just as well.)

As to not forget the true meaning of Christmas...
baby Jesus will be moved from one pocket to the next each day. I'm excited for Mikayla to really begin grasping the concept of the reason we celebrate the season...Christ's birth! I look forward to many pondering questions from her as we talk about who baby Jesus is.

Enjoy the Christmas fun! Remember it doesn't have to be complicated or extravagant...simple always works!

Come visit Sugarplum Creations each Friday for the next three weeks to share all of the fun Christmas activities you'll be doing with your kids.

**********************************************

Don't forget that tomorrow is the big day to start linking up your Christmas crafty decor for this month's craft challenge, so come on back to join in the fun! Remember...there is always one lucky (and random) participant who wins a little something.
It could be you!

Your candy countdown turned out so cute! My boys are excited about the candy that is in our advent calendar too {I'm posting about it tomorrow for the craft challenge}! I love that baby Jesus moves each day on your calendar...such a great idea!

Fun! We do an advent calendar like that too. It's a great way to prepare and make the wait not seem so abstract.

I've done the candy countdown before! Yours turned out so cute. Love the picture of them holding it up! I love that you are moving baby Jesus through your calendar! That is awesome way to keep the main focus!

Love your homemade calendar too!

Heidi, you are too too sweet! Your "calendars" look GREAT! We so enjoyed putting ours together as well. And, yes, YAY for chocolate! You and I are definitely on the same wave length. I'm not putting our slip of paper in until the night before either. It's just too hard to plan three weeks ahead this time of year, so we're taking it day by day. As for keeping it simple . . . us too! Some days it will be as simple as a Christmas story with a cup of cocoa. It's the thought.

*I love that you're keeping Christ in Christmas!!

Great ideas-I love the Hershey Kisses and moving Jesus along the Advent calendar. Good idea about planning the night before for the activity too-wish I had thought of that. I've seen other people doing this type of Advent activity but was afraid to do it in case the girls picked a slip of paper with something we just couldn't do that day. Thanks for sharing!!

I love the idea, especially moving Baby Jesus - so the true meaning of Christmas is appreciated.

What a cute, and tasty idea!

I'm such a slacker this year...didn't get any advent calendar made, or hung!
