making it a treasure

A little over a month ago, I took a trip to Goodwill to scope out and see if there was anything I could find to create a fun transformation...just because. I have seen some amazing projects floating around blogland where people have taken what seems like trash and turned it into a treasure, so I was a little motivated to try and do the same.

Well, needless to say I'm not sure I have "the eye" for these sort of things, but I did come away with two little goodies that I thought might have potential...and it only cost me $2.00!

It was finally time to tackle this project!!

This is a wooden box marked at $.99. I decided to use it to hold Mikayla's hair accessories, but not looking like this!

I was using the container below from the "first round" of organizing her hair accessories, but every time I wanted to get into it, I had to unscrew the lid. Lazy, I know!

Here's the wooden box transformation...
I (my husband) spray painted the box white, and then I used Modge Podge to cover it in some decorative paper. I then wrapped a grosgrain ribbon around it and added some fun embellishments to finish it off!

Now, onto my second transformation...this was another goodie I found at $.99! It's one of those cubes that holds various photos. I didn't quite like the "good times" on it, so...

I covered it in the same decorative paper as the box above and added some clear bubble stickers for a little extra embellishment.
I'm slowly trying to redo Mikayla's room into more a "big girl" room little by little, so this was a fun little project I could do quickly, but still make somewhat of a change.
Maybe next time I'll have to challenge myself with something a bit larger.

For more "trash to treasure" projects, head on over to Kimm's at Reinvented. She has an amazing one to share (how does she do it?!), and there are other projects to check out as well.

I've also done a little tackling of my craft cupboard. It really needed it!

BEFORE

AFTER

Obviously I've made a little extra room in the cupboard because guess what?? I'm doing it! I'm signing up to be a Stampin' Up! demonstrator and I'm super excited! Anyone need to buy some crafting supplies...specifically stamps?

And, lastly...the biggest tackle of all! Getting my son's haircut! I haven't quite been up for the challenge in cutting it myself, so we take him to Little Clippers (and pay entirely too much, by the way!). This last cut was such a nightmare! He cried and fussed the whole time. The gal did the best she could, but I just couldn't wait to get out of there! Maybe this is why we wait so long in between haircuts. But he does look darn cute...

Wow your crafty changes look so nice! I love the hair clippie holder and you'd never have known in a million years how it started out! You should consider entering it into that Spring Mod Podge Contest I posted about.

The hair cut came out really cute. I am afraid to take my kiddo for a hair cut myself! Too chicken to do it yet.

Hey, if you are up for a challenge, I have a pretty large doll house that you can have. I painted it a bit and added some "carpet" but you could redo all of it if you want for Mikayla's room. I was thinking of sending it to Good Will anyway because I just don't really want to put the work into it - and it's pretty big. Let me know.

PS. Jeremy's mom does our kids' hair and we always have to give them a lollipop so that they will stay still.

I'm behind on my craftiness because I don't get what Modge Podge is. Is it a better kind of glue?

I love both projects-way cuter the way you finished them up! Great job on the craft cabinet-looks great! Good Luck with stamping up-I love rubber stamps!!

Cute haircut. I'm not looking forward to my son's first haircut. I've always cut the girls hair but I don't think I'd try his.

Great work Heidi! I'm not very good at being a "green/environmental" person, but I love the idea of repurposing things. Great haircut too.

I love going to the Goodwill. I always find something that I can recycle. What a cute bow box!

Both your projects turned out so cute! I have Modge Podge on my list for when I get around to an errand to Michaels. It seems like you can do so much with that stuff! As you can see I am quite lacking in my craft knowledge! Modge Podge is probably covered in like Crafting 101!
