tackle this, that, and the other

Day One of implementing my new daily schedule was a success! (more details to come...but if you're wondering what I'm talking about, I kind of explained a little bit in this post)

The kids and I had such a great day and we didn't even have to go anywhere! I was able to tackle so many things and I had dinner ready to go as hubby was walking through the door. He even let me get away at 7:00 to tackle a huge grocery trip and he took care of bath time and bed time for the kids.

Besides the normal morning tackles of getting showered and dressed, breakfast for all of us, dishwasher unloaded, breakfast dishes loaded...do I need to keep going? You all know how the morning is! I decided as part of my new "schedule" Mikayla and I would do a daily craft together sometime in the morning. I am going to make sure it never has to be anything fancy or require a lot of supplies (or I might not do it), but just something fun that she could do that will be different than just playing with Play-Doh or coloring.

So, today's craft tackle was inspired by Lucky Me! and we made Easter egg sun catchers using contact paper and tissue paper. Super easy and she loved it!! You'd be so proud of me because I even did a little mini-lesson on eggs by showing her what an egg looks like and talking about how it is an oval shape, and where they come from. I know! I guess the teacher in me is starting to show again!

While the kids took a nap, I got busy working on Mikayla's birthday party invites for her three girlfriends that we are inviting over to help her celebrate turning 3! I've been meaning to get going on these for awhile, but the inspiration hit me today and I got to accomplish a fun tackle!

I found a purse template on my most recent trip to Paper Zone, and since it's going to be a tea time/dress up party, I thought this would be a cute way to invite the girls.

Another fun tackle was making this little welcome jar of robin egg whoppers for our new neighbors down the street. We haven't officially met them yet, so I thought it would be fun to bring them something to welcome them to the neighborhood. They are a young couple who are expecting their first child, so it will be fun to get to know them...if they so desire to.

I made the tag using my new Stampin' Up set called Cheep Talk. I love this set!! I made a few cards with it over the weekend, so I'll have to show you how cute this set is.

Overall this day was so much fun and I wasn't sitting on the computer for more than 5 minutes while the kids were up. That felt so good!! We read books together before lunch, and it delighted me to watch the kids play together with NO TV on (not that we watch it all day anyway, but I'm putting a tighter reign on it). I even took 20 minutes of my day (doesn't sound like a lot) and just had mommy play time with the kids...with no other agenda other than to sit and play and have fun. They got a kick out of serving me food from their kitchen and Austin wrestling me. I don't do this enough, so I'll definitely be making it a habit! It's inspiring to see the little changes I'm making, and although I realize it's only Monday and day one of this "new schedule", I'm determined to make all of these changes a routine in my day to day life!

And with all this talk of being crafty and creative...don't forget to be working on your button projects. THIS THURSDAY is the day we'll be linking up to show off our button magic. I'll give a sneak peek of a little something I've been working on soon. You'll have one week after Thursday to still link up and be entered into the giveaway. Yes, there will be another giveaway!! I just can't help myself!! Spread the word with the button in the left side bar and visit HERE for more information on my monthly craft challenges.

To see what others tackled today and to get inspired to get tackling, head on over to 5 Minutes for Mom.

What a fun craft you did with Mikayla. It seems I never have alone time with Maya to be doing things like this. And Declan would certainly get in the way. I just read your previous post and I'm so glad to hear that your new schedule it going well. It's hard to know what to do FIRST when you are a mom and house keeper:) I usually wait until the kids are asleep at lunch time to get a shower but I am trying hard to change that. I have my computer time in the morning before they wake-up and when they nap....that's about it. The rest of the day is all about laundry, cleaning and the kids. Not always fun, but it feels great to relax with Jeremy at the end of the day.

Good job with your schedule. I have tried in the past but I am really more of a fly by the seat of my pants kind of gal.
Good luck sticking with it!
